I’ll take Indie Piñata for 300(¢)

by Benjamin Fitzgerald

Back in September, Gog.com partnered with Crunching Koalas to bring Indie Piñata into the world. It’s a pretty cool idea, really. How it works is that you are able to buy a game at random for $3.00. I’m not much of a gambler myself, but in this instance I thought it might be interesting to try my luck. I could play some games I wouldn’t normally buy and write reviews about them. Also, it’s pretty cool because it helps to support the indie game scene.

I smashed that piñata five times, and ended up with the following games: Jazzpunk, Banished, Desktop Dungeons, Quest for Infamy and Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut. Since Quest for Infamy and Shadowrun: Dragonfall were already on my wishlist, they will be reviewed independently as part of future thematic projects I have in mind. The other three games will consist of a brief series of reviews I shall call the Indie Piñata Reviews.

These are going to be a bit different for me. Most of the games I have reviewed so far are games I’ve played before and am familiar with. In the case of these games, I am reviewing titles I normally would never have purchased on my own, games I’ve gone in on without really knowing what to expect. It’s anybody’s guess how these reviews are going to turn out, so stay tuned!
