Jake Rushing – Muramasa The Demon Blade (Wii)
I never got the chance to beat Wario Ware last week, due to my schedule, but I will come back to it later.
However, after playing Muramasa for a bit, the art style, cooking mechanics, and the fast paced fluid combat kept drawing me in and kept me playing the game. It’s just a fun game overall that I’ll just continue to play until the end. Even though that I’ll be busy this week, this game will be the one game that I’ll play this week for sure.
Marshall Garvey – Fight Night Champion (Xbox 360)
I’m back! After two magical weeks of relaxation and sightseeing in Europe, I’m ready to jump back into the swing of things with Last Token Gaming. Fight Night Champion is my immediate go-to, having gotten to sample it a bit before I left. I love it already, although I’m still mostly playing the training mini-games to get the controls down perfectly. I have also started the main story mode on the easiest difficulty setting, in which you guide the fictional boxer Andre Bishop from prison brawls to the championship. I have to say, it’s a nice touch, and definitely makes this game stand out not only in the long line of Fight Night installments, but the crowded field of boxing games in general.
Beyond that, there’s not too much new on my front. I’ve actually been playing an online game called Truth or Dare, found here: truthordare-game.com. It’s lots of fun, and it’s just keeping me busy until I get a PS4 later this year. I want to really get back in the swing of things with reviewing, and I’m WAY overdue on a Hall of Fame Review. Red Dead Redemption and the first season of Telltale Walking Dead are my leading candidates at the moment, but naturally, my return to reviewing will be my first ever Gaming Disasters piece, about Aliens: Colonial Marines. I choose to bring this punishment on myself for your reading pleasure, LTGers. Remember that.
Ben Fitzgerald – Her Story, The Forest of Doom (PC)
Anna’s Quest was a beautiful little adventure with a bittersweet, if still happy, ending. Well worth the playing. Now, I am working on the old-school FMV Her Story. It doesn’t really qualify as a video game in any traditional sense, but it’s not exactly an interactive movie. It really does its own thing, occupies almost its own genre, and does so in a manner that’s almost…bewitching. I think I might have an idea of what’s going on, but I’m sure that there’s a lot of pieces to this mystery I still haven’t uncovered. What is going on?
I was planning on playing through Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons, but my worthless laptop can’t run the game. So I’m playing The Forest of Doom, which is a game I got through a pretty nifty bundle that included Lichdom: Battlemage for only $1.99. It’s basically a reprint of an old choose-your-adventure book from the 1980s; you play as an anonymous hero who must travel through a dark forest on a quest to rescue an artifact to save a city of dwarfs. Is it chock full of fantasy clichés? Of course it is. It’s still an enjoyable diversion, and an interesting change of pace as a video game.
